Okay, so how many of you saw it??

Four movies in the history of movies have made more than $1 billion. Avatar may very well become the fifth. James Cameron's homage to the Blue Man Group has made $232 million worldwide in just one weekend, and there are at least three reasons to believe that number may reach a billion.

First, a nasty winter storm kept many Northeastern moviegoers standing next to the oven, dreaming

TheSchoenrock and I saw The Road instead. It was good, but it wasn't Very Good. I think we're going to see Avatar when his ladiefriend is here, cuz she like blue dudes.

I'm seeing it tomorrow night in IMAX 3D. Will report back - you know how I hates me some 3D.

i peeped this a few weeks ago. I normally wouldnt have gone but I was invited to an early screening. It was OK, not my cup of tea really, but it kept me entertained for 3 hrs. So I guess that's good. I did laugh when they had avatar sex though.

Well, the IMAX 3D version was already sold out (not going to a 10:30 show on a work night), so we're seeing the 2D version. Ironically, I actually want to see how the 3D is so much better in this movie. Oh well.

Saw it opening day. Didn't live up to the hype. 3D is still blurry and one-dimensional (i.e. they force you to focus on one plane that is in focus), story is beyond cliche and completely P.C. Some amazing action and, yes, special effects that are like nothing you've ever seen but mostly lame. Most of my theater burst out laughing when the characters got intimate too. Some provocative ides here and there but nothing you haven't seen before. If you wanna see it for the spectacle you will not be dissappointed but there is very little else to it.

I'm so glad to hear the 3D sucked! I just saw the 2D version last night and felt like I was missing out for much of the movie. Good to know I wasn't.

Overally, I'd give it about a 70% rating. Meaning, I liked it about 20% more than I disliked it. MFB's review pretty much sums up my experience as well. I'm somewhat disappointed that it didn't live up to the "game-changing" hype - I was hoping for this generation's Star Wars.

Oh, and parents - it's *very* PG-13. Don't even think about bringing your little ones, if you're a good parent. In my theater, there were tons of five-and-under kids, which was very upsetting to me. The previews alone were enough to create life-long nightmares for these kids.
