British rocker Robyn Hitchcock is known for his distinct stage wardrobe, and he didn't disappoint for his set at Chicago's Metro on November 8, 2006: He emerged wearing a purple, silky shirt covered in pink hibiscus. Backed by his new band, the Venus 3 (comprising Peter Buck, Scott McCaughey and Bill Rieflin), he opened with "Adventure Rocket Ship" off 2006's Ole Tarantula and kept amazing momentum throughout the show, playing a lot of great new music. Hitchcock, who's career started in the mid-'70s with the Soft Boys but who has putting out solo albums since 1981, kept the crowd entertained in between songs with his usual witty stage banter, but the set's highlights were the title track off Ole Tarantula, which showcased the beautiful vocal harmonies of Scott McCaughey, and the Arthur Kane tribute "NY Doll."
