Brooklyn Electronic Music Festival 2010: Acts to Watch

The third annual Brooklyn Electronic Music Festival hits Williamsburg this Saturday and will scatter a slew of scintillating acts from NYC and beyond across adjacent venues Music Hall of Williamsburg and Public Assembly in a marathon of high-energy sound that will monopolize 3 different rooms from 8 pm – 4 am.

The densely packed roster brings together bands, DJs and producers well-known and little-known for what is pretty much looking to turn into an all-night dance party. This means a lot of overlap, and while it might prove a tight squeeze to catch all the interesting names on the list, read on for some stand-out acts to watch.

LEMONADE – There’s something a little bit grungy, a little bit sinister about the pulsing intensity of the Brooklyn trio’s feverish, electro-tribal rhythms.  It’s what the DJ should be spinning at that sooty, sweat-soaked basement party where everyone’s dancing to forget. Witness the psychedelic banana-eating and wild, DayGlo beach dances in the video for “Big Weekend,” here:

KID SISTER – The Chicago-based singer released Ultraviolet, an album of poppy, synth-soaked dance rap, in 2009. Tracks like “Control” and “Right Hand Hi” bring perky, dancefloor-ready beats, but you probably know her from “Pro Nails,” with Kanye West:

TREASURE FINGERS – Atlanta-based DJ and producer Ashley Jones has officially remixed the likes of Miike Snow, Estelle and Empire of the Sun, to name a few. The uptempo, funky house sound of “What Am I Supposed To Do” makes for a solid Saturday-night groove:

Treasure Fingers – What I Am Supposed To Do

KINGDOM – The R&B-influenced, Brooklyn-based DJ/producer pulls together elements like Chicago house and UK hardcore for darkly thumping rave beats like his debut single “Mind Reader” [ft. Shyvonne], released this February on the Mind Reader EP from Fool’s Gold Records:

PENGUIN PRISON – The New York-based one-man-band produces the happy kind of electropop at its most contagious. With his warm, toe-tapping jams, he pulls off sweet without being cloying. It’s flashing lights, falsetto, nu-disco fun. Here he is remixed by RAC, and remixing Marina and the Diamonds, respectively.
