It's becoming more and more likely that America's most beloved animated family, The Simpsons, won't return to the airwaves next year. After an epic run of 23 seasons, the now legendary TV show is facing its demise because it is no longer profitable. Even if its voice actors take a huge pay cut -- more on that at Huffington Post -- The Simpsons simply won't be making money for its network, Fox.
So upon hearing this (for some) earth-shattering news, we took it upon ourselves to create a list of the top 10 best musical guests to appear on the program. It might not seem like it at first, but narrowing it down to a mere 10 wasn't easy. I mean, there are enough cameos in the "Homerpalooza" episode itself to fill up half of the list. And, really, picking just one of those acts was the most difficult part. Because come on, how can you argue against Homer's interaction with Billy Corgan ("Homer Simpson, smiling politely") or the quick pan to Sonic Youth eating Peter Frampton's watermelon?
We did it, though, and as is always the case with lists, we're looking forward to your feedback. Below the photo of the artist and their cameo, you will find a choice quote from each (and/or Simpsons characters) highlighting exactly why they made our list.
Lenny: "How'd you get R.E.M. to play in your garage?"
Homer: "I told them we were billionaires trying to save the rainforest."
#9 Lionel Richie
Rescuer: "Mr. Richie you have to drop your American Music Awards!"
Lionel Richie: "You drop yours!"
Rescuer: "I dont have any."
Lionel Richie: "That's right! HAHAHA!"
#8 50 Cent
50 Cent: "The more you know, the further you go. And that's one to grow on... Does that count as community service?"
#7 The White Stripes
Jack White: "Hey kid, why don't you watch where you're drumming!"
Bart: "Sorry, White Stripes. No hard feelings?"
Meg White: "Let's kick his ass!"
#6 Cypress Hill
Cypress Hill: "Before we start, we have a lost child here. If she's not claimed within the next hour, she will become property of Blockbuster Entertainment."
#5 Barry White
Barry White: "I love the sexy slither of a lady snake."
#4 George Harrison
[Upon seeing the Be Sharps performing on a rooftop, which the Beatles did for "Let It Be"]
George Harrison: "It's been done."

[As imaginary coyote spirit guide]
Johnny Cash: "Clarity is the path to inner peace."
Homer Simpson: "Well, what should I do? Should I meditate? Should I get rid of all my possessions?"
Johnny Cash: [snorts] "Are you kidding? If anything, you should get *more* possessions. You don't even have a computer."
#2 Michael Jackson
Bart: "I can't write a song! I'm only 10."
Leon Kompowsky (Michael Jackson): "ONLY 10? When I was your age, I had six Gold records."
Bart: "Hey, looney tunes!"
[pulls out the Thriller album]
Bart: "THIS is what Michael Jackson looks like! You just look like a big, fat mental patient! "
Leon Kompowsky (Michael Jackson): "You'd be amazed how often I hear that, Bart."
#1 Spinal Tap
Harry Shearer: "I can't think of anyone who's benefitted more from the death of communism than us."
David St. Hubbins: "This is a rock concert, not the bleedin' ... 'splish-splash' show."
