    A close-up the battered Gibson SG, expertly operated by Tony Iommi of Black Sabbath, the man who wrote 'Hand of Doom' and so many other classic songs. I lucked out w/ this shot in that he got right up to the front of the stage on the final song I was allowed to shoot, and the light was enough so that I was able to stop down enough to get most of the image in focus. Such a small image size doesn't do this image justice, but the 20" x 30" print I had made does.

    Though Astronautalis is an indie rapper based in Seattle, he loves to make the trip all the way across the country to play crazy shows in Portland, Maine. In this case, it was his second time back with Boyfriends, Inc. partner Bleubird inside a year, and the last time they came around and played at Bubba's Sulky Lounge (a dive bar with hidden rooms, taxidermy, and two light up disco dance floors) had become the stuff of legends and made for an excellent show. He's currently touring Europe with Tegan & Sara.

    This came as a complete accident. I was trying to focus on Rooney guitarist Taylor Locke, because he's just so damn charismatic, but because his mic stand got in the way, my lens decided to autofocus on the girl standing in front of me clapping along to "If It Were Up To Me." This Rooney/Tally Hall/Crash Kings show was my second foray into concert photography with my new 50mm f/1.8 lens, and I'm hooked.
