The bold saxophone and skittish beat of this new song date Swedish crooner Jens Lekman's sonic blueprints squarely in the fifties (or at least in Jonathan Richman's blurry nostalgic version of that decade's music). He tries to keep up the rosy suburban ideal for a verse or so, before being forced to admit that all he finds in the Swedish countryside are closed minds and misguided urban fashion emulation. Entertainment comes in the form of a bingo hall, its atmosphere captured with typically amusing lines likes, "G-42, oooh, I'm going diagonal!"
While I hesitate to suggest that a smart song writer should keep his wit in check the jokey delivery, when combined with the already in quotes "sock hop cruising" sound, hammers home the time warp theme a bit too clumsily. As a result, Lekman's salient points about small town life are made far too easy to laugh off.
