Track Review: Britney Spears "Gimme More"

In the real world, there'''s no better feeling than running into an ex-girlfriend who'''s gotten fat and unattractive since she dumped you. In the world of pop culture couples, the relative answer to that must be when your ex-girlfriend'''s married and divorced a redneck dancer and has her career firmly placed in the toilet. What would feel even better, I imagine, is the ex trying to appropriate your successful, adult sound for her very own and falling flat on her face for her efforts.

Welcome to ''"Gimme More,''" the new Britney Spears single, which is as rife with retarded ''"adult''" sexuality as ''"I'''m A Slave 4 U''" was, only presumably without a jackable video to go along with it. When Justin Timberlake sings about being ''"Lovestoned''" or bringing ''"Sexyback,''" you can believe it. He'''s still a young man who can, without question, bed any woman he lays eyes on. Britney, on the other hand, is a mother twice over. Contrary to popular belief, mothers are not sexy, although given Britney'''s reverence for Madonna, her confusion is understandable.

Full of droning, low electronic bass lines, ''"Gimme More''" is a song you almost want to like and certainly one you'''ll be forced to hear for the next three months. It'''s Britney'''s bid to recall the pop genius of ''"Toxic''" and the sexiness of ''"I'''m A Slave 4 U,''" but it falls short. What'''s key to Britney'''s appeal is the ability of the audience to almost believe the song, which she ruins by breathing ''"It'''s Britney, bitch''" before the song starts. Where her other hits have been more undeniable than they'''ve been insipid, ''"Gimme More,''" with its chant of ''"Gimme gimme gimme gimme''" in the chorus, leaves the listener wondering if millions of dollars can'''t always buy a good song or if it can'''t make you know the difference between the good and the bad. Regardless of whether we want Britney to give us more, we'''re getting it.

I Love "Gimme More" Britney ROCKS!!!!!!

August 31, 2007 at 11:13 a.m.

Umm. I wonder if you're a little bit biased? Reading this was a waste of 2 minutes I will never get back.

August 31, 2007 at 11:45 a.m.

You're not judging the song for what it is, it's obvious you're just judging the person as much as you want to look you don't do that. The song is catchy and it's already getting lots of plays in less than 24 hours because people is requesting it.

August 31, 2007 at 11:48 a.m.

shut the **** up who ever reviewed this song is a stupid hatter THIS SONG IS FIREEEEE, you dont know **** about music cuz you say IM A SLAVE FOR U was bad but in reality it was britnesy biggest hit go suck a damn bird , BRITNEY IS BACK AND **** ALL THE HATERS................

August 31, 2007 at 11:48 a.m.

August 31, 2007 at 12:04 p.m.

It's not bad..

August 31, 2007 at 12:51 p.m.

Interesting how complicate your review with such comments like "redneck, fat, unattractive and having a failing carrier" as if calling this woman names would justify your need to downplay the affect that this record has had in less than 48 hours. #1 on NY's Z100, Will I Am proclaiming it as "dope" and a "club" song...What is true, is that it is not a perfect record, but it is definately going to be a hit once Britney makes her appearence at LAX and the VMA's. Britney has never had a perfect record, nor a perfect voice...but the package that she sells is what makes her so appealing to both adolesence and adults. And please, once she steps onto that stage to perform her well calculated return, all will be forgotten. All the allegations that Kevin has drowned Britney with cannot stop this truly talented woman. All the men in the world will once again find her sexy and attractive...but this time because she is real, she is human and because she did it on her own!

August 31, 2007 at 1:44 p.m.

Actually, it's pretty catchy. And good. IMHO & YMMV, of course.

August 31, 2007 at 1:46 p.m.

LOVE IT!!!!

August 31, 2007 at 1:54 p.m.

Jesus. This is a review? Some piece of redneck trash needs to get an education, and it isn't Britney. I like the song.

August 31, 2007 at 2:29 p.m.

All well thought-out responses! Does sarcasm translate over the internet?

August 31, 2007 at 2:48 p.m.

Glad to have read a review that isn't kissing all up on Britney's dimpled, flabby ass. The song is a'ight but not great. The fans are just mad at anyone who doesn't join in on the Britney Fan Circle Jerk.

August 31, 2007 at 2:48 p.m.

Haha... Will.I.Am said "it's dope." So there you go. Psh.

August 31, 2007 at 3:10 p.m.

August 31, 2007 at 3:20 p.m.

being an exfan, i didnt expect dis song 2 b dat gud, but to be honesh i was pleasantly surprised, da song is actually quite catchy and likeable. Dis review is biased on her personality and not on da track itself, after hearin da song i actually feel da brit culd make a gud comeback after all. Its a gud dance track, and deserves more credit,as Will-I-M said.

August 31, 2007 at 4:56 p.m.

This is a terrible song. Britney's 15 minutes needs to be over with before too long. It is time to let another talentless manufactured pop tart dominate the media.

August 31, 2007 at 6:02 p.m.

This new song is GREATT!!!!!!I knew you would make a comeback BRITT!!maybe a little more hot songs and you will be the HIT GIRL of the yearyou're and amazing aritsts who gives what people are saying about you.If they thought BRITTNEY was such a horrible singer than why are you taking the time to go on a website to LISTEN TO HER MUSIC!!!!!!!and write rude things about her.IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT THEN STAY OUT OFF her WEBSITESS!! WRITING MEAN THINGS DOESN't make you any COOLER!***HOLES!much love:]gimme moree!WOOOOTT HOOOTAND YOU KNOW YOU THOUGHT BRITNEY WAS HOTTTTTTTTTTT as F*CK when she was the in thing!!EVERYONE DID B*TCHES.ITS BRITTNEY bitchhhhhhhhhhhhhh

August 31, 2007 at 6:14 p.m.

Gimme More is definitely a different tune than her other hits, but its a good place to start her comeback. I like it! AND TO ALL THE PEEPS WHO TRASH BRITNEY, WHY ARE YOU CLICKING ON STUFF TO READ ABOUT HER???? YOU ALL ARE LOSERS AND ONLY WISH YOU HAD HALF HER TALENT/MONEY! BTW, to everyone that says she is fat?? come on-she had two kids in less than 2 years, and there are bigger women than her out there. Lets take a look at your body-lemme tell u, i bet you aren't the cream of the crop.

August 31, 2007 at 6:29 p.m.

O.K first off i will say that talkin trash about Britney has NOTHING to do with giving a song review...what she does on her own time should not even be known to us much less be hated on by low lives like yourself...she human like everyone else and I bet that you've made some shit choices in your life aswell...DONT JUDGE B*TCH!!!Now on to what should be talked about and that being the song itself...I think Its GREAT...Its no TOXIC but good nontheless.

August 31, 2007 at 6:31 p.m.

Oh and p.s Britneyfan circle jerks are good times...your just pissed noone asked your sorry ass to join.

August 31, 2007 at 10:08 p.m.

I agree with the above, you sound bias and it was a waste of 2min i will never get back, the song is the shit and it is britney.....bitch. Dont hate the player, hate the game. Your article only looks at the singer not the song which is very much in comparison to Timbaland "The way I are" and 50 cents "Ayo" they are all similar and they are and will all be hits. Learn one thing, you will have to hear this song for the next three months because people will be requesting to hear it!

August 31, 2007 at 10:23 p.m.

By the way Patt sarcasm does translate over the internet! Your review is full of about a handful of it. You remind me of Perez hilton, trashing everyone but takes the time and energy to embrace their negative hatin', i commend for being a Britney hater thank you for giving me a reason to like britney's music even more then I already do. Take her SONG for what it is, and no that is not sarcasm its honesty. Get it? Oh so lets think about this for a minute, if moms aren't sexy and lets say your married to a women which I doubt, who has reared your children, she is no longer sexy, its crap, you couldn't find anything to say about the song because you like it and to uphold your snide nature you went straight for the singer not the song, congratulations. The first step is admitting you have a problem!

September 1, 2007 at 12:47 p.m.

September 2, 2007 at 4:19 p.m.

LOVe the song! But hate her! She needs jenny craig babe! Instead of its britney bitch! She should say " I'm a cracked out bitch!!! :D

September 2, 2007 at 4:35 p.m.

I think its pretty good. I think maybe she finally listened to Deborah Gibson and have up her vices and got back to why she is a performer for in the first place.

September 2, 2007 at 6:19 p.m.

This review is the most disgusting, offensive, rude, and totally unwarranted piece of hate-speech I've ever read about Britney and it tops even perez hilton.Perhaps you really need to take a look at yourself and deal with your issues.better, get together with perez for a gay marathon.

September 2, 2007 at 9:07 p.m.

I feel the article was biased against Britney. We all know Britney has gone through alot, but who made you God. I wish she finds the wisdom and ability to handle her storms in life. I must say she is talented and has that has the X factor. Gimme More is great. I really hope she finds her way and wish her the best.

September 2, 2007 at 10:01 p.m.

I have to disagree with the article. This song is sooo hot and definitley a club banger. Some people just refuse to give this girl a break.

Pat you smell

September 3, 2007 at 9:24 p.m.

Stupid website! Gimme More is hot!

September 4, 2007 at 9:56 a.m.

The song is a pale imitation of the sound of Justin Timberlake's newest album. That's what the review boils down to, for those too busy defending their fallen queen to read comprehensively. Yes, the song is catchy, yes, it will be played all over the radio and in clubs for months to come. No, that doesn't mean the song is good. God-awful Hootie & The Blowfish owned the Billboard singles chart at one point. Music that appeals to the lowest common denominator will always be popular, regardless of whether it's brilliant or trite farcical crap. I mean, Burger King's mad tasty, but that doesn't mean it's good food, does it?

September 4, 2007 at 9:50 p.m.

The song sucks. It sounds just like her other songs and her voice hasn't changed since Hit Me Baby One More Time. It is too repetitive and electronically over done. I can't believe people are actually calling this a song. Anyone could have made this if they had the right equipment. I thought a vocal artist was someone who could actually sing. Their voice was strong enough that it didn't need electronics. She has made a joke out of the music industry. It's pathetic. It's pathetic to see how many people actually think this is good. All those who like this song or any other electronically made song obviously don't know music. That's sad.

September 4, 2007 at 9:59 p.m.

The song is crap. It's boring, there is nothing new or original. It's catchy because some guy knows how to throw a decent beat, but the vocalist sucks. If you want to consider britney a vocalist.

September 4, 2007 at 10:03 p.m.

Britney's so over. The song is a joke. Yeah, given the right equipment I could have pulled that out of my ass and made a million too. could have done that with all of her shit songs.

September 5, 2007 at 7:21 a.m.

I rather overdose on Ex-Lax and die! I am so sick of Britney, and this "new" track is the same old S%$# she has always done. She can't sing, period! Any cat in heat can moan and groan and breathe on an electronic track. I thought she was going to re-invent herself, but the skank keeps going backwards. She stinks!

September 5, 2007 at 8:34 a.m.

really........ I cannot fathom what is making people like this song. WIth all the other great songs on right now, we are picking this? I have sirius and they play it way too much, really, way too much, so much that if they don't stop playing it, I will no longer see fit to send them my monthly subscription for thier service. And whether or not the review is biased based on Britney's behavior is irrelevant, after so long it does become quite hard to overlook her antics, and being a mother myself, this woman completely disgusts me, she needs to focus on taking care of her children that she saw fit to create. Either way, this song is terrible, and if this is all that it takes to please people then the whole music industry is in trouble. Remember the macarena? Yeah, great, this is what we have to look forward to. Meaningless songs that people like because they can dance to them. Justin Timberlake makes songs you can dance to and they don't sound like crap. Anybody could have thrown this song together, there is no special talent here. This is definently for the 14 and younger crowd, but then again, Brit always did want to be a role model for younger girls! Lets just hope they don't follow in her footsteps.

September 5, 2007 at 9:44 p.m.

wow dis song is good...i aint a fan but its really catchy..its good to have her back in the scene...shes well known for her catchy beats and she delivered..best of luck to her!!!!

September 7, 2007 at 4:27 p.m.

ITSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS BRITNEY BITCH!! hahathis song is sick! luv it

September 7, 2007 at 5:05 p.m.

This review sucks, and the person that wrote it sucks. How dare you say that she isn't sexy because she's a mother. I really didn't pay any attention to any of the other crap you were talking about because instead of reviewing the song, you got down and dirty and very personal. I'm a mother you **** for brains and I'm sexy as hell.

September 7, 2007 at 7:28 p.m.

I actually like the song...Go Britney !!!!

September 9, 2007 at 8:06 p.m.

its a catchy song ..... im glad for Britney.... shes talented and i wish her well!!

September 9, 2007 at 8:07 p.m.

Legandary Britney Spears? That is one of the lines in the song......and I agree! I just hope the CD is as good.

September 10, 2007 at 9:02 a.m.

Cant belieive the slagging this girl gets critics have said she's outa shape? WhaTTTTTTTTT any women would die to look as good as that paid for or not and any man would love his girl to look as fit. Ok the song is ok i agree with some of the other guys there must be better songs out there, no sorry i disagree cause as a song writer I know what you will find is only the in crowd will get the songs to the artist real talent lies undiscovered because of this. Welcome back B stay of the drink the drugs and all the rest keep smiling your still lookn damn good girl.OH and as for the mother bit hahahah my daughter who is 16 has male friends who have told her quite openly they would love to you no what with there mother, my wife so to the reveiwer get a grip as for Justin dont make me sick any one who earns a living sounding like michael Jackson is and always will be a wanna be not a true star you really think he is in the same ball gameas ELVIS or MICHAEL JACKSON come on what f...... world are you guys F...... living in.MOther me anytime BRITNEY anytime

September 10, 2007 at 7:02 p.m.

Damn, Britney got a lot of love out there. Too bad for all you "highly intelligent" people, with your lips firmly attached to her underside, she rolled outta rehab, got liquored up and stumbled onto stage - Live on MTV. She was "great" and it's obvious all you "rocket scientists" knew what you were talking about. Wow, that was off the hizzy. How does it feel to be "vindicated" after this reviewer reality blasted Britney, err, "showed bias and has **** for brains" only to be "rebuked" a week later. That was some impressive showing by Britney. All you "quality people" should be really "proud" right now.I guess that old saying is true, you can take a girl out the trailer park... But damn, does everyone come from a trailer park in country? It's also true that eventually, you get what you deserve. Keep the blasts coming, because you're the ones stuck with that outta shape, incoherent trailer park trash stumbling downhill. Yall love her and yall can keep her. Just remember what side of the fence you're on.But please, keep the hatters out of this. They've got enough problems of their own.

September 29, 2007 at 6:03 p.m.

man give me more is such a fantastic song i love it! BRITNEY U ROCK GURL!!!

September 30, 2007 at 9:21 a.m.

October 7, 2007 at 5:37 a.m.

waww. haha really brit is back! as you play it more, the more you'll appreciate the song. the song is very catchy, and is hot!

October 7, 2007 at 11:06 p.m.

dude, you can defend yourself all you want but what it "boils down to" is the fact that this is not a review. only about 4 sentences of your "review" was actually a review. the rest of it was you saying **** about britney herself.

October 11, 2007 at 9:26 a.m.

This review is S***. It says nothing about the song. This reviewer should be fired. The song is catchy and sexy. Britney's back and better than ever. U better believe it!!! GO BRITNEY!!! XxXxX

October 13, 2007 at 11:21 p.m.

I agree with you. I personally cannot stand sexually laced and slutty songs. What ever happened to those days when Britney sang songs like "Sometimes", "Oops, I did it again," and "Lucky." Honestly, I just can't stand to watch and listen to Britney dress and perform like a stripper anymore! And by the way, she's fat and ugly indeed. But that's America for you. Good and soulful songs don't top the charts. No, it's the disgusting songs with the artists who have a reputation for slipping their tops off, showing their panties and getting caught with drugs are the ones that get all the attention. I have listened to Gimme More several times and I really believe Britney has talent. It shows in the song. Her voice and rhythm is amazing. I'm just sorry that she has to sing these lyrics and perform like a slut.

October 22, 2007 at 2:01 p.m.

She is one of my favourite singer .. anyway I think she lost a bit in last two/three years... Anycase for me is still one of the best!

October 26, 2007 at 1:11 a.m.

Oh. **** the haters. Me lovessssssssssss Britney. :]Talk to the hand haters!

October 26, 2007 at 1:13 a.m.

I love this song actually. Lotsa love Brit!

October 26, 2007 at 12:12 p.m.

Excuse me, but moms are hot... just not nasty moms like Britney ;)

October 28, 2007 at 2:44 p.m.

If this reviewer actually gets paid to write this garbage, he should be removed from the payroll with immediate effect. Talk about bias

October 28, 2007 at 2:47 p.m.

Oh and regarding his retarded last post, at least Britney didn't go to a load of already well known producers and get them to make a clone album for her like Justin did.

November 18, 2007 at 8:30 p.m.

Wow she did it again... she came up with another garbage tune

November 29, 2007 at 6:37 a.m.

shez done an amazing comeback she rocks even if she was bald
