The success of Waka Flocka Flame legitimizes the dreams of all those unknown entourage members who hope to make it big. Prior to his 2009 club hit “O Lets Do It,” Juaquin Malphurs, a.k.a. Waka Flocka Flame, was a nearly anonymous member of Gucci Mane and OJ da Juiceman’s 1017 Brick Squad collective. (Gucci gave him his distintive moniker.) But then his streaky, jittery, consonant-less song “O Let’s Do It” caught on among club-goers and DJs, and Waka was elevated into the ranks of the contenders.
Rick Ross, Diddy, and Gucci Mane jumped on a remix of “O Lets Do It,” and Lil Wayne, in addition to countless other rappers, ripped the instrumental for mixtapes. In 2010 Waka Flocka was featured on Gucci Mane’s single “Bingo” along with Soulja boy Tell Em, and he released the mixtape Lebron Flocka James Pt 2. His debut album, Murda-Man Flocka, is expected sometime in 2010. ~Wilson McBee
