SoundGirl is a London-based pop trio that first came to web prominence in 2010. The three girls (in terms of age, not as a gendered statement), Nicole, Olivia and Izzy, cited "the sounds of TLC, Salt 'N' Pepa, Aaliyah, Destiny’s Child and Rihanna" as influences. According to their MySpace page they "consider[-ed] the classic sounds of Old School R’n’B while keeping it fresh with Epic [sic] songs and even bigger beats." They circulated two songs "Walking On Air" and "The Game." In truth the songs sounded simply like the majority of contemporary, glossy pop, a la Rihanna. The main difference was that there were three people's voices instead of one.
The Popjustice website offered high praise for the trio by lifting the group's bio text verbatim from its MySpace page and citing SoundGirl as "almost certainly" the website's "new favourite girlgroup." Popjustice also described the group's songs and style as "VERY 90s-influenced," but as mentioned above the music was hardly a throwback. In fact SoundGirl claimed to be working with the "people behind Justin Timberlake, Britney Spears, Beyonce, Cheryl Cole and Fergie," so the group naturally adhered to late-'00s pop standards.
In fall 2010 the group began touring with fellow pop artist Pixie Lott.
