In the early '00s local Philadelphia sensation Peedi Peedi (formerly Peedi Crakk) had the backing of Jay-Z and the Roc-A-Fella brand. Yet after a half-decade of working together the relationship dissolved and as of 2010 the rapper is still struggling to release his debut album. In 2008 Meek Mill, a like-sounding rapper who is also a local sensation in his native Philly, landed a deal with T.I.'s Grand Hustle imprint. So, the question is this: Can T.I. do something the Roc nation couldn't?
Not for nothing Meek Mill seems to be on a smoother track than Crakk. Robert Rahmeek Williams formed the quartet Bloodhoundz with Mel Love, Dat Nigga Leel and Young Pooh as a teen. In 2007 he released the first of his Flamerz mixtape series. In 2008 Meek released a follow-up, Flamerz 2: Hottest In Da City. The mixtape garnered enough attention to land him a meeting with T.I. and his eventual record deal. All this work culminated in a strong 2009 and 2010, highlighted by his Flamerz 2.5 (which featured songs that found rotation on local radio) and Flamerz 3 (with DJ Drama) mixtapes. His high-profile collaboration track with T.I., Vado and Rick Ross, "Rose Red," garnered considerable attention on the Internet in August 2010.
